This assures that what Abraham Lincoln said is true, that "most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." Happiness is from within; it is not a matter of externals.

Just for today I will try to adjust myself to what is and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my family, my business, and my luck as they come and fit myself to them.

Just for today I will take care of my body. I will exercise it, care for it, nourish it, not abuse it nor neglect it, so that it will be a perfect machine for my bidding.

Just for today I will try to strengthen my mind. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.

Just for today I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress as becomingly as possible, talk low, act courteously, be liberal with praise, criticize not at all, nor find fault with anything and not try to regulate nor improve anyone.

Just for today I will try to live through this day only, not to tackle my whole life problem at once. I can do things for twelve hours that would appall me if I had to keep them for a lifetime.

Just for today I will have a program. I will write down what I expect to do every hour. I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will eliminate two pests, hurrying and indecision.

Just for today I will have a quiet half-hour all by myself and relax. In this half-hour sometimes I will think of God, so as to get a little more perspective into my life.

Just for today I will be unafraid, especially I will not be afraid to be happy, to enjoy what is beautiful, to love,and to believe that those I love, love me.

THINK AND ACT CHEERFULLYPhyllishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00606928098756483560noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507414224844848711.post-7683425360428941882009-12-25T00:17:00.000-07:002009-12-25T00:18:17.515-07:00MERRY CHRISTMAS!Here is a Christmas recipe for you. Here are a few of the things she said along with some others I found. Enjoy!

The green button is to call the Flight Attendant. If you press it morer than twice, you will be ejected from your seat.

If we go down in the water, this aircraft will become your cruise ship. Grab the cushion and scream like hell. Please jump out of the plane. If you do not, the flight attendant will be glad to push you out...she's just that type of a gal.

When the aircraft takes off the lights will dim. This will enhance the appearance of the flight attendants.

Please move all body parts to the inside of the isle so we don't wipe them out. We will be collecting trash and unwanted items such as old money, gold jewelry, or anything of value which does not include unwanted husbands, children or pets.

There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out
of this airplane..."

"Your seat cushions can be used for flotation, and in the event
of an emergency water landing, please take them with our compliments."

"We do feature a smoking section on this flight; if you must smoke,
contact a member of the flight crew and we will escort you to the wing
of the airplane. Movies showing there are: "A Walk in the Clouds" and "With a Wing and a Prayer."

There may be 50 ways to leave your lover, but there are only 4 ways out of this airplane..."

"Your seat cushions can be used for flotation, and in the event
of an emergency water landing, please take them with our compliments."

"We do feature a smoking section on this flight; if you must smoke, contact a member of the flight crew and we will escort you to the wing of the airplane."

"Smoking in the lavatories is prohibited. Any person caught smoking in the lavatories will be asked to leave the plane immediately."

Pilot - "Folks, we have reached our cruising altitude now, so I am going to switch the seat belt sign off. Feel free to move about as you wish, but please stay inside the plane till we land... it's a bit cold outside, and if you walk on the wings it affects the flight pattern."

And, after landing: "Thank you for flying Delta Business Express. We hope you enjoyed giving us the business as much as we enjoyed taking you for a ride."

As we waited just off the runway for another airliner to cross in front of us, some of the passengers were beginning to retrieveluggage from the overhead bins. The head attendant announced on the intercom, "This aircraft is equipped with a video surveillance system that monitors the cabin during taxiing. Any passengers not remaining in their seats until the aircraft comes to a full and complete stop at the gate will be strip-searched as they leave the aircraft.

Once on a Southwest flight, the pilot said, "We've reached our cruising altitude now, and I'm turning off the seat belt sign. I'm switching to autopilot, too, so I can come back there and visit with all of you for the rest of the flight."

As the plane landed and was coming to a stop at Washington National, a lone voice comes over the loudspeaker: "Whoa, big fella...WHOA..!"

"Should the cabin lose pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the
overhead area. Please place the bag over your own mouth and nose before assisting children or adults acting like children."

"As you exit the plane, please make sure to sure to gather all of your belongings. Anything left behind will be distributed evenly among the flight attendants. Please do not leave children or spouses." "Last one off the plane must clean it."

And from the pilot during his welcome message: "We are pleased to have some of the best flight attendants in the industry... Unfortunately none of them are on this flight...!"

Heard on Southwest Airlines just after a very hard landing in
Salt Lake City: The flight attendant came on the intercom and said, "That was quite a bump and I know what ya'll are thinking. I'm here to tell you it wasn't the airline's fault, it wasn't the pilot's fault, it wasn't the flight attendants' fault.....it was the asphalt!"

Overheard on an American Airlines flight into Amarillo, Texas, on a particularly windy and bumpy day. During the final approach the Captain was really having to fight it. After an extremely hard landing, the Flight Attendant came on the PA and announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to Amarillo. Please remain in your seats with your seatbelts fastened while the Captain taxis what's left of our airplane to the gate!"

Another flight Attendant's comment on a less than perfect landing: "We ask you to please remain seated as Captain Kangaroo bounces us to the terminal."

After a particularly rough landing during thunderstorms in Memphis, a flight attendant on a Northwest flight announced: "Please take care when opening the overhead compartments because, after a landing like that, sure as hell everything has shifted."

From a Southwest Airlines employee.... "Welcome aboard Southwest Flight XXX to YYY. To operate your seatbelt, insert the metal tab into the buckle, and pull tight. It works just like every other seatbelt, and if you don't know how to operate one, you probably shouldn't be out in public unsupervised. In the event of a sudden loss of cabin pressure, oxygen masks will drop from the ceiling. Stop screaming, grab the mask, and pull it over your face. If you have a small child traveling with you, secure your mask before assisting with theirs. If you are traveling with two small children, decide now which one you love more. Weather at our destination is 50 degrees with some broken clouds, but they'll try to have them fixed before we arrive. Thank you, and remember, nobody loves you, or your money, more than Southwest Airlines."

An airline pilot wrote that on this particular flight he had hammered his ship into the runway really hard. The airline had a policy which required the first officer to stand at the door while the passengers exited, smile, and give them a "Thanks for flying XYZ airline." He said that in light of his bad landing, he had a hard time looking the passengers in the eye, thinking that someone would have a smart comment. Finally everyone had gotten off except for this little old lady walking with a cane. She said, "Sonny, mind if I ask you a question?" "Why no Ma'am," said the pilot, "what is it?" The little old lady said, "Did we land or were we shot down?"

After a real crusher of a landing in Phoenix, the Flight Attendant came on with, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please remain in your seats until Captain Crash and the Crew have brought the aircraft to a screeching halt up against the gate. And, once the tire smoke has cleared and the warning bells are silent, we'll open the door and you can pick your way through the wreckage to the terminal.

Part of a Flight Attendant's arrival announcement: "We'd like to thank you folks for flying with us today. And, the next time you get the insane urge to go blasting through the skies in a ressurized metal tube, we hope you'll think of us here at USAirways."Phyllishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00606928098756483560noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507414224844848711.post-60364075324428701892009-09-29T19:35:00.002-06:002009-09-29T19:42:32.651-06:00CAMBRIA PINES LODGE - BIRDHOUSES

Phyllishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00606928098756483560noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507414224844848711.post-59535136624190792812009-09-26T22:10:00.015-06:002009-09-29T18:13:10.292-06:00CEDAR MOUNTAIN IN ALL ITS SPLENDORHere are some pictures of our day trip to Cedar Mountain. We traveled up to Enterprise which is forty minutes north of St. George. There were so many people there! Every year there are more and more people. This year we decided to stop and pick up our corn first thing before going to the booth area which was held at the Enterprise High School. Our grandson Chance was working at the Navajo Taco booth. We had a Navajo Taco and it was delicious! Too bad I didn't get a picture of it. Jandi was working at the car wash in town. Lacey was home helping her mother Annette make cakes for the dinner. Annette was busy making batches and batches of bread dough for the Navajo Tacos. They were a big hit and they were selling out.

The American Tribal style Sha'waza dance troupe was only one of the groups entertaining at Enterprise's annual celebration of the harvest of locally grown produce.

Although the Corn Fest is renowned as a city-wide farmer's market that draws more visitors than the town's population, the event has grown into a family festival that features rides for the children, a car show, a concert stage for local and visiting groups, a volleyball tournament, a petting zoo and an array of business booths.
Along the main street through town, other produce vendors took advantage of the increased traffic. About 90 cars were entered in the car show this year, and more than 80 vendors had set up booths.

Here is a picture of Enterprise Corn. Yummy! <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/Spnu4uUIBbI/AAAAAAAAAQo/7g0OQVer_qc/s400/CORNBEST.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375590288515925426" />

They also had a car show there. These are just a few of the cool cars that were there. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/SpnvFxGgWtI/AAAAAAAAAQw/YPuSQvxZnMw/s400/Phyllis%26car.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375590512602405586" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/SpnxPAkxy2I/AAAAAAAAARA/L8NtC44Jb8E/s400/Car3front.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375592870397987682" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/SpnzF74iEAI/AAAAAAAAARI/tNaNEgNCqc4/s400/Oldcar.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375594913543098370" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/Spnzf0Yp-bI/AAAAAAAAARQ/udO25uIo0Fo/s400/Corvette.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375595358206949810" />
Here's Jandi at the car wash.<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/Spn2tpHZuQI/AAAAAAAAARY/8PhFg1Vccdw/s400/JandiCarWash1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375598894234843394" />
The Jack Holt home has lots of activity. They sell THOUSANDS of ears of corn. They had a five dozen limit this year. Their corn sells for $4.00 a dozen and is worth every penny. We bought our five dozen. They also have a tent set up and sell all kinds of fruits and vegetables. I bought a watermellon, cantalope, peaches as well as tomatoes. Oh, my goodness, the peaches are WONDERFUL!!! So sweet, juicy and flavorful. They also had all kinds of baked goods. They sold hot buttered cooked corn and Navajo Tacos. I love Pine Valley and would love to have a cabin up there so we could get out of the hot summers here in St. George. It was 113 today in some parts of St. George. It's so hot that the house doesn't cool down when it gets to those temperatures. It's really nice in the wintertime, though. You just have to get through these hot summer months. As you can see, there's still paper up to the windows.
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/Sl1cOJ2YRvI/AAAAAAAAANI/-Dk5CHn_mpQ/s400/GEDC0018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358540529872684786" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_PncVT4q5ZSY/Sl1aylvONII/AAAAAAAAANA/rtuTEFSJYF4/s400/GEDC0017.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5358538956810892418" />
Ever since we built the house I wanted to add these additional boards. It's only taken 18 years now to get them on the house. The color change was a whim from a website I was looking at where I saw a building in Solvang painted something like this. The one I liked had the red basic color with blue boards and small white boards next to the blue ones. We were discouraged from the blue color so we went with the boards white and the house red. I think it turned out pretty cool. Notice the picture with the small blue boards next to the white ones. It certainly is not like any other house on the block...or in Ivins anymore. I really like it. What do you think?Phyllishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00606928098756483560noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1507414224844848711.post-20981893330967778832009-07-04T21:25:00.004-06:002009-07-04T21:32:30.557-06:00IN MEMORY OF A DEAR FRIEND
Yesterday was the funeral of my dear friend Sherry Lyn Petersen. It's 11:20 pm and I'm going to bed. I'm excited for the dinner tomorrow night. We have 50 people coming...if they all show up. Dennis is a fabulous cook and the dinner will be great!
